ABOUT US

The Marine Advanced Research Centre (MARC) Ltd. is a research-oriented organization dedicated to advancing ocean engineering for a sustainable future.

MARC works with shipyards, designers and owners on the risk assessment that alternative-fuel ships need at the design stage. We identify hazards with your team in HAZID and HAZOP workshops, then measure the serious ones with quantitative risk assessment and CFD, using methods our team publishes in peer-reviewed journals.

The Centre promotes the use of advanced safety and risk methodologies, carries out environmental assessments and develops cutting-edge simulation technologies.

MARC also seeks cooperation with industries, universities, research institutes, classification societies, and governmental organizations to contribute to safer and more sustainable maritime systems.

Our services

01

Safety & Risk Assessment

HAZID, HAZOP and FMEA for alternative-fuel and novel marine systems. We build the framework and worksheets around your system, facilitate the workshop with subject-matter experts and deliver a consolidated report. Scenarios that need numbers go straight on to our quantitative risk and CFD work.

02

Environmental Analysis

Life cycle assessment of marine fuels and technologies, covering emissions and resource use from fuel production to operation. Our team's recent work compares alternative fuels under FuelEU Maritime, the EU ETS and an IMO net-zero framework scenario.

03

Simulation Technologies

CFD modelling of gas dispersion, fire and explosion on ships and offshore installations. Our team's published study of hydrogen release from vent masts sets out how we model the internal flow and the atmospheric boundary layer.

04

Marine Infrastructure

Structural analysis and integrity assessment of offshore platforms and vessels.
